If any of you are familiar with McSweeney's Wholphin DVD [1] series, you know that they contain some seriously crucial shit. You'll always find some interesting short docs, including a few previously unreleased films from such major league hitters as Spike Jonze, Errol Morris and David O. Russell. I own a few of these, but I've lost track of any recent releases. Luckily, after swinging by Videogum [2], I was reminded that I MUST purchase the next one for one simple reason;
James Franco destroying a room for 32 minutes, as directed by novelist, Where the Wild Things Are screenwriter and McSweeney's editor Dave Eggers. ALSO, Creed from the Office has a go at obliterating a room, along with some other woman I didn't recognize. Some people might look at it as art; I just see it as a famous dude destroying a room for 32 minutes. Here's the synopsis for Wholphin #8:
Wholphin No 8 features Lauren Greenfield's deeply disturbing, hilarious, and timely documentary, kids + money, the 2009 Sundance Short Award winner, Short Term 12, Carlos D from Interpol¹s gorgeously-shot, surrealist dreamscape, My Friend¹s Told Me About You, Sam Taylor-Woods' film adaptation of a Patrick Marber short story produced by the late Anthony Minghella, a series of bedroom-trashing menu films starring
James Franco, Creed Bratton and Maria Bamford, films from Sweden, England and North Korea, and much more.
Definitely gotta pick this one up. Just check out the video sample below and tell me this doesn't rule.
