Transformers director Michael Bay might just have found his next franchise vehicle. Bay is tapped to produce an live-action adaption of the sci-fi novel
I Am Number 4, written by James Frey and Jobie Hughes, who also wrote
A Million Little Pieces. The screenplay is being written by
Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, with no director yet attached, as Bay is still considering whether or not he should take the gig himself.
I Am Number 4 is the first in a series of six books, which centers around a group of nine aliens whose home planet is destroyed. They escape to Earth disguised as teenagers, and the title character discovers he and the others are still being hunted by the enemy that destroyed their planet.
This certainly sounds like something which is right up Bay's alley. Not only is it something which can possibly turn into yet another huge franchise, but with the plot centering around aliens disguised as humans, awkwardly trying to mimic us, it also then gives Bay plenty of room for fart, cock, and racist jokes, combined with huge Bay-splosions for when they have the face off with the one who destroyed their planet!
